things are never what they seem to be....

In our everyday lives, how many things do we actually appreciate with our whole heart? How do we actually perceive others? Lately, this is what I have  been thinking about. Many of us have everything in our life and yet we complain. We talk about other people's problems without thinking twice but in reality, have we once tried to put ourselves in their position? Just for a moment? When we are going through a problem, why is it that we want the whole world to understand how we feel but when it is our turn to understand someone else, we pretend to be so ignorant??
Nobody in this world is above anyone. That is a fact. Status, wealth and fame are all a part of an illusion. They will be around today and tomorrow, they may dissapear never to come back. No doubt that as human beings, we want all the good things in life but sometimes, when we acquire those good things, why do we tend to forget where we came from? Why do we start thinking of ourselves as superior?
There are very many other good things in life that we should start thinking about so that we can become better people and make the world a better place to live in.  This was the thought of the day....

Let it go..........

One thing we must all learn in life is to let go of things which may not matter at the present moment. If you love someone, let them go, if thet come back to you, they are meant to be yours and if they don't, then it was never meant to be.............

Gotta take each moment as it comes...

Today I just want to share one thought, we gotta take each moment as it comes. Don't expect more or less! Just let things happen and if things are meant to work out, they will. Never try too hard, it always falls back on our faces. And always be positive, no matter how bad things may seem to be, because happiness is always around every bend and turn in life....

Why????

Time keeps moving and the clock keeps ticking away. The journey never seems to end. Everything feels empty and meaningless. Why am I here? Who am I? These questions keep crossing my mind. Sometimes I feel that I am waiting for something or someone to pass by or come by. Who or what? I really don't know and maybe I never will.

I feel like this photograph expresses all my feelings, Everything is there and yet, there is nothing.
What meaning does life hold? Why do we meet people who become so special in our life but only for a while? Why does everything keep changing? why do memories always remain? Why can't we relive the best moments of our life?

So today is the day when my new collection called Mikono Kwa Mikono is born. It is a combination of neckpieces and hand dyed fabric.

Technology has come such a long way that we have all become raveled into mass production whether we like it or not. I am not saying it is a bad thing but sometimes, it does not harm to break away from the rhythm and explore something fresh.

So here I am, young and away from home trying to look for a place in this place or am I? SiriKipekEE meaning Unique Mystery in Swahili has managed to draw together a collection called MikonO kwA MikOno meaning hand in hand.

I felt the urge to convert the hand dyed chiffon into a wearable item. The nature of my relationship with the fabric goes a long way back into time. It signifies a personal journey.

MikonO kwA MikOno as a combination of two different landscapes and cultures, evokes a sense of subtle intricacy. Inspiration for the collection comes from the Masaai tribe of Kenya (my birth place) and the exploratory nature of the Australian Landscape. Each neckpiece is made from a combination of hand dyed chiffon and a leather strand.

The palette consists of vivid colours such as reds, oranges, blues and greens. The neck pieces are ideal to wear with uncomplicated and simple outfits. Each piece is exclusive and inimitable. The neckpieces are a must have for anybody who loves to make fashion statements and stand out of the crowd.

Come and seize a taste of this collection to depict a brave and daring personality out there.

Gloomy Day plus the clock is ticking away...

So today is a very very gloomy day! I am trying really hard to get some work done but I keep getting distracted! haha! Don't we all feel that way sometimes? Especially when the weather is such a downer?
Ahh Well, I am trying to cheer myself up by watching some good old hindi movies!!!!!!!!! My way of making my own day! :)
It is always great to have something to cheer you up, especially when you get a little lonely! :) Well, on the brighter side, uni is almost coming to an end! I can't believe it!!!!!!!!! The great thing is that I am going to take such great memories back with me! But I will miss the time I spent here! And I will miss everyone! :(
I will not stop blogging about life and my work though!! :)

At the end of the day...

Do we usually sit down to actually think about what really matters to us at the end of the day? Do we think about what made us really happy during the day? I do that sometimes.
I think it is a great thing to do, it helps us understand what we actually want....

Beauty Within the Hand

Technology has come such a long way that we have all become raveled into mass production whether we like it or not.  How much do we actually consider or look back to beauty within the hand?

I am a textile designer originally from Kenya and has studied in Perth, has taken a step back from technology.  I am planning to have my own label called Beauty Within the Hand. The inspiration behind my collection and designs is that I come from a very different cultural background, after coming to Perth, I took in the landscape and merged it with what already existed within me (The Kenyan landscape). This led me to a journey to hand dye cloth in colours associated with both the Australian and Kenyan landscape. I further translated these fabrics (chiffon) into contemporary neckpieces. They are quite unique and can be worn with plain outfits or they could also be wall pieces.
My collection has the potential to develop into other products such as bags from the hand dyed chiffon fabric.

Everyday, most of us think twice before doing a lot of things in life. I say that is good but we shouldn't think too much! live for the moment and take life as it comes. When we do that, everything turns out to be much more interesting.
If you want to eat something you havent eaten for long, do it! if you want to speak to a friend that you havent spoken to for a while, then call them! Why wait wait when you can do it now! make life interesting and live it how you've always wanted to! :)
Well, as for me, I am trying to do it! easy to say and hard to do sort of thing!

It's never that simple.....

When we want something, we sometimes don't know that we want it..... how long does it really take to find out what we really want?????

Textiles and their Magic.....

Ever noticed how magical textiles can become when we get innovativ with them? I have an attachment with all the textlies I create.....

The colours are eyecatching, I have taken a special liking to needle felting and it is absolutely magical......

Dispersal dyes are simply expressive, the colours they bring out are bright and happy and a lot of depth can be created with dispersal dyes....

One can create 3D stuff and also combine laser cut felt with organza or ciffon and use a needle felting machine on it....

What.....

Sometimes it isn't as simple as we think it is... It's way too complicated... That's when we have to listen to our heart.... Today is some what like that.... What??? I don't know....

Time.... could it possibly turn back??

I woke up this morning feeling nostalgic! Something kept coming to my mind, a memory that keeps coming, no matter how hard I try to supress it.... Does it happen to many people? Do we keep bumping into our yesterday and wish that it was still a part of our today? I do....

I wish I could make yesterday today......life has changed like the colours in this work..... so different from what it was...

When Seen from the top, everything looks ok.... but have we ever bothered to look deep inside??

There is always a lot more to a person than what we see outside....

Passion...

How passionate can we really get? I love making textiles because they help me express myself.....

The colours evoke a sense of moods that I can relate to.... Especially through needle felting...

Dispersal dyes are amazing...They can be used to express a lot of things....

Could we possibly freeze time like freezing sand? Or find our way through the windy roads we come across in life? Reflection iis important.... Do we like what we see???

How are we today?

We are always surrounded by things that we cannot understand most of the times. Do we worry? Ask yourself how you feel today, don't worry too much about understanding others. Because hey, you are you!
How are you today? Happy? Sad? Just numb? why? Is that how you are meant to be???? Live life for today, who knows what is gonig to happen tomorrow!!!
